Tips and Tricks for Easy Marble Success!
Use room temperature water or distilled if you have hard water.
Shake to disperse pigment particles in each capped bottle just prior to use, so all are ready. The marbling process requires you to work quickly!
The paint "open" time is about a minute. The cooler the room temperature and the greater amount of paint used = longer open time.
Your dipping container should be 2-3x's the width of the item to ensure enough room for ink to coat the surface for full coverage.
Use generous amounts of your colours and don't over-stir in your container. Over-stirring create bubbles and air pockets and other potential imperfections when you are ready to dip!
Try submerging items vertically, so each surface is coated, even if it's a sheet of paper. This method, as opposed to dipping paper flat against the surface and lifting, often yields more interesting patterns.
Remove excess colour away from surface while object is submerged, other by blowing or with a piece of cardstock. This prevents a double marbling layer from attaching to the object.
Easy Marble is not food safe or washable. You can coat the finished piece with a paint sealer for durability, however. A brushable water-based varnish is recommended, applying only after marbling has fully cured – 24 hours. Some varnishes may interact with the marbling and so testing to ensure compatibility is a must!
Clean wet spills with isopropyl alcohol. Xylene or similar solvent can be used for dried spills.
