Akua Intaglio Inks are akin to a traditional intaglio inks but are non-toxic and fume free. Soy-based ink with a high pigment load, Akua inks deliver rich, vibrant colours and strong blacks. Created from the safest pigments possible, Akua inks do not contain hazardous pigments known to contain heavy metals (lead, cadmium, nickel or cobalt) or toxic driers. They are the only inks with endless open time – they will never skin over in the jar or dry on a plate allowing endless flexibility. Easy clean up with soap and water.
Intaglio is much tackier and stiffer than Akua Liquid Pigment. Originally formulated for intaglio printmaking, Akua Intaglio can also be applied with a brayer for relief printmaking, monotype, and collagraphs. It will print from any plastic, wood, linoleum or metal plate and prints well on dry or damp paper.
Akua's User Guide walks you through all the tips and tricks to achieve beautiful results.
Note: This product may need to be mixed before use. Because of the heavy pigment, separation in the jar is normal. Use a knife to stir the ink, making sure to scrape the bottom of the jar to incorporate the settled pigment. It's also important to stir the ink regularly during printing sessions to ensure consistency of colour.
